Graduate Student Orientation
Department orientation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 9:00 AM in room 200 Knapp Hall. Orientation will include an informal student meet and greet over coffee, pastries and an interactive ice breaker. Later you will be joined by key graduate faculty for program information. Before lunch, we will offer an overview of graduate assistant expectations including descriptions of assignments and responsibilities. Department faculty will then join us for lunch.
University Graduate Teaching Assistant Orientation:
All new Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) must complete the University Graduate Teaching Assistant Orientation, parts 1 and 2 below.
Part 1: Online Modules: Introduction to Effective Teaching
These modules provide essential information and resources that will help GTAs to navigate FERPA guidelines, apply academic integrity policies, adhere to Title IX regulations, and connect students with wellness resources and academic support. These modules will be available on eCampus by June 1. New GTAs should complete these modules by the beginning of the Fall semester.

Part 2: Face-to-Face Orientation: Monday, August 11, 2017. 8:00 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. Ming Hsieh Hall G20.
New GTAs should attend the face-to-face orientation in addition to completing the online modules. This orientation will provide an introduction to effective teaching practices, including Succeeding on the First Day of Class, Engaging Students for Active Learning, and Reaching All Learners.
