Research

Faculty members in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology are engaged in a wide variety of research projects focusing on West Virginia, Appalachia, the US and other nations.  These projects often reflect our department’s interests in community, crime, and culture broadly, but also include projects reflecting our personal interests.  We often collaborate with scholars in other departments at WVU along with colleagues around the United States and the world.

Individual accomplishments can be seen on each faculty member’s webpage here, but some highlights include: more than 50 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in the last review cycle, four academic press books published in the last academic year, three editorships housed within the department and two research centers directed by current faculty.  Many of our faculty actively seek federal and state funding for their research, which supports graduate students in our doctoral program.
